Function Point is excited to announce the release of our Pinned Task feature. This features allows you to pin Tasks so that they show up in a designated module on the recipient's dashboard, similarly to our Pinned Notes feature. Incorporating Pinned Tasks into your workflow can help you keep track of especially important tasks.
Here are some suggested uses for Pinned Tasks by Role:
- Project Managers:
- Pin Tasks assigned to others to your own dashboard to monitor progress on them
- Pin Tasks to team members' dashboards to keep them at the top of their to-do lists
- Pin a Task assigned to you to a coworker or manager's dashboard to get help with it
- Pin a Task assigned to you to your own dashboard as a reminder to yourself to prioritize it

Getting Started with Pinned Tasks
Pinned Tasks are Tasks in your FP system that will appear in a designated module on your dashboard, separate from the regular Tasks/To Dos panel. Any Task can be set as a Pinned Task. For Pinned Tasks to be visible on your dashboard, you'll need to make sure that the proper module is activated.
To add the Pinned Tasks module, hover over the Dashboard icon and choose Customize Dashboards.
Either create a new dashboard from scratch, or replace one of your existing modules with the Pinned Tasks module. For more detailed instructions on how to customize your dashboard, check out this article: Customizing Your Dashboard
Once you've added the module, you're ready to start Pinning Tasks!
Note: each user's dashboard settings are unique to them. If your agency will be using Pinned Tasks, we recommend encouraging all staff to add the Pinned Tasks module to their dashboards.
The first step to pinning a Task is to navigate to its basic info page. Click on the Pin button in the top righthand corner.
A box will popup with a list of staff member names. Select the checkbox beside the name of the staff member/s you'd like to be the recipient/s of the Pinned Task. Click Submit when you've finished selecting.
You can also pin Tasks from the Kanban board view. Select the Task that you'd like to pin.
Click the Pin button.
Select recipient/s for the pinned Task.
The staff member/s you've chosen will now see the Task in the Pinned Task module on their dashboard.
Note: You also have the option to set up in-system and/or email alerts to notify staff of a new Pinned Task. To learn more about managing alerts, check out this article: System Alerts
To keep track of who has received and seen Pinned Tasks, click the Pin button from the Task basic info page again. You'll be able to see who the Task has been sent to, as well as whether or not they've clicked on it, and if they've removed it from their dashboard.
Receiving Pinned Tasks
If you're the recipient of a Pinned Task, you'll be able to see it in the Pinned Task module on your dashboard. You can hover over the Task title to see any description information attached.
Clicking on the Task's name will bring you to the Task's basic info page. From here, you can make any changes to the Task, such as update the status or add a Timesheet.
To manage the Pinned Task in your Tasks/To Dos panel, you can search for it by name.
Once you no longer need a Task to be pinned, you can unpin it by clicking the Unpin button.
